Scholarships

Apply through the National NROTC for the full tuition four-year scholarship, Minority Serving Institution (MSI) scholarship or nursing scholarship. NROTC scholarships are awarded for all majors, but tier one and two majors (those within more technical fields) have increased chances of receiving a scholarship.

Full Tuition Four-Year Scholarship

A four-year scholarship includes full tuition at one of the five GW NROTC consortium schools:

  • University of Maryland at College Park
  • Howard University
  • George Washington University
  • Catholic University
  • Georgetown University

In order to join the NROTC Program, you must apply and be accepted into one of the five schools.

The scholarship covers:

  • All college/university tuition and educational fees
  • $375 per semester text book stipend
  • All uniforms
  • Naval Science text books
  • A subsistence allowance each academic month

Summer Training

Students attend a summer training session for three to five weeks each year based on their year and scholarship:

  • Rising Sophomores: CORTRAMID
  • Rising Juniors: LANTRAMID
  • Marine Scholarship Juniors: Mountain Warfare
  • Rising Seniors: Community specific cruise: Aviation, Submarine, SWO, Spec War
  • Marine Scholarship Seniors: Officer Candidate School

Minimum active duty service obligation is four years active duty, four years reserve duty, but varies based on service selection.

  • ACT minimums: Math: 21 Verbal: 22

Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Scholarship

The MSISR is a Naval scholarship opportunity for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and is available to students who have applied to and gain admission to Howard University.

Frederick C. Branch Marine Leadership Scholarship Program

These scholarships are nominated by the Professor of Naval Science (PNS) and confirmed by a board convened at Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC).  These scholarships are only available for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) schools and are on an as needed basis. 

Nursing Scholarship

The nursing scholarship is available to students who have applied and have been accepted to Catholic University and have been accepted to the GW NROTC program.  In order to receive the scholarship, you must intend to pursue a Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing.  Upon graduation, these students will be commissioned as Reserve Officers in the Navy Nurse Corps.

The scholarship covers:

  • Full tuition
  • Lab fees
  • A textbook voucher of $250 per semester
  • An academic monthly stipend

MERIT Scholarship (Beginning with new students who enroll in Fall 2015 and later)

Eligibility: NROTC Students Attending GWU NROTC*
*Note: Does not apply to Howard, UMD, Catholic, Georgetown students, or already enrolled students. 

STEM ROTC Scholarship Students:
Note: To be considered a STEM student, one’s primary school must either be GW’s School of Engineering and Applied Science or CCAS with a major in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geological Sciences, or Mathematics. 

  • $3000/semester room (applies only to students living in GW housing)
  • $1000/semester board
  • Total: $8000/year combined ($6K Room/$2K Board)

Non-STEM ROTC Scholarship Students:

  • $1000/semester room (applies only to students living in GW housing)
  • $1000/semester board
  • Total: $4000/year combined ($2K Room/$2K Board)
