Academic Information
Academic Information
Each midshipman will be assigned an active-duty officer advisor at the start of each semester or academic year. While midshipmen are expected to use the battalion chain of command for questions or concerns about normal operations, the active-duty advisor serves as the primary mentor for academics, professional development and personal matters. Midshipmen should expect to meet with their advisor to discuss their progress, goals, and challenges. The NROTC advisors will review the student degree completion plan ( signed by the schools academic advisor) to ensure Midshipmen meet both academic and NROTC academic requirements. NROTC specific course work can be found here

Unit Academic Standards
- All Midshipmen must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- All Midshipmen must be enrolled full-time (no less than 12 credits per semester).
- Navy Option Midshipmen must complete Calculus II and Physics II prior to their Junior Year.
- All freshmen must attend weekly study sessions at their respective Universities.

NROTC Required Academic Courses
NROTC Academic Information
- Courses taken for college credit prior to entering the NROTC Program (including Advanced Placement (AP) Courses or College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam) are acceptable so long as credit is awarded toward a baccalaureate degree by the host university. In this case a letter grade is not required.
- Students may not use pre-college credits to fulfill both semesters (or quarter equivalents) of the requirement for calculus and physics; at least one semester/quarter each of calculus and physics must be taken in the university classroom environment for a letter grade. Higher level math like CALC III, Differential Equations, or Dynamics taken at the university count toward the calculus requirement.
- Classes taken via distance learning (e.g., online, videotape) are not acceptable for fulfilling the NROTC academic program, unless the host university accepts the course for transcript credit with a letter grade Midshipmen must contact their advisor to ensure those credits may be applied in fulfilling Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) requirements. NROTC units are not authorized to accept distance learning for calculus, physics, or Naval Science classes without specific approval from NSTC.
- Midshipman seeking to take their required Calculus and/or Physics courses at institutions other than their home institution must contact their NROTC advisor for further information and approval, alongside approved institutions for credit transfer.
- Navy Options must consult their academic advisor when transferring majors involving tier change. NROTC ranks majors into three tiers based on their relevance to naval service and engineering, from most (Tier 1) to least aligned (Tier 3)."
